TANZANIA: Archdiocese of Arusha Celebrates Golden Jubilee

Archdiocese of
Arusha celebrated its Golden Jubilee on December 29, 2013 by Holy Mass that was
led by H.E Polycarp Cardinal Pengo, the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Dar es
Salaam, Tanzania.

In his solidarity
message, the Apostolic Nuncio to Tanzania Archbishop Francisco Padilla, stressed
about unity, solidarity, love, Justice and Peace among the people of Tanzania. He
said Tanzanians should cultivate forgiveness and reconciliation among peoples, and
help one another in order to maintain peace which has been into existence for many
years something which Tanzanians should be proud off.

The Prime
Minister of Tanzania Hon. Mizengo Peter Pinda who represented President Jakaya
Kikwete of Tanzania commended the unity among the Christians in Arusha region
and he commended the Catholic Archdiocese of Arusha to pioneering this unity of
Christina denominations which should be a model for other region in the
country. He asked the Religious leaders to help build piety among the faithful
they serve so as to help the Government in protecting and maintaining Justice
and Peace in the country.

AMECEA was
represented by His Lordship Isaac Amani, Bishop of Moshi, Tanzania and the
Chairman of Staffing Committee in the AMECEA Executive Board.

The Golden Jubilee celebrations were preceded by the
inauguration of St. Joseph the Worker Parish Church –Olasiti on Saturday on 28
December 2013 by Apostolic Nuncio to Tanzania Archbishop Francisco Padilla; the
Church that was bombed during the opening ceremony on 5 May 2013.  

For his part, the Archbishop of the Diocese of Arusha Most Rev Josephat Lebulu
said it is better for people to know that God’s plans cannot be destroyed by
the devil. “We failed to open the church before because of the devil but now
the devil is defeated that is why we are able to open it,” he said adding that “God’s
plan cannot be destroyed by anyone and that is why we are here today in our
church to dedicate it and bless the graves of our faithful who have died for their
Catholic faith, ” said Bishop Lebulu .

The ceremony was
attended by 17 Bishops and over 80 priests, religious and thousands of Lay
Faithful from within and outside the Diocese.
