ZAMBIA: Caritas Zambia Submits Memorandum on Gender and Climate Change
Sandra Kunda
Caritas Zambia has submitted and presented a Memorandum to the National Assembly Committee on National Guidance and Gender Matters, calling for stronger gender responsiveness in Zambia’s climate change policy frameworks.
During the submission, Caritas Zambia emphasized that climate change is not only an environmental concern but a growing threat to livelihoods, particularly for rural communities where poverty levels remain high.
Caritas Zambia highlighted how the climate crisis affects men and women differently, often deepening existing inequalities and destabilizing household economic security.
Caritas also outlined challenges hindering the effective implementation of gender-sensitive climate policies and proposed practical strategies to strengthen national frameworks to better protect vulnerable and marginalized groups.
It has since reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for fair and inclusive climate action that bridges inequality gaps and safeguards the future of all Zambians.
