KENYA: ACWECA Holds Fundraising Dinner to Support Construction of its Secretariat

The Association
of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa – (ACWECA) held a
fundraising dinner in aid of phase one of the building projects of its regional
secretariat and development center.
The fundraising
dinner that was graced by Bishop Alfred Rotich, formerly of Military
Ordinariate was held on 6thDecember 2013 at St Austin’s Multipurpose
Hall Nairobi and managed to raise a total of Kshs. 1,500, 000/= (about USD 17,647.-)
The guest of
Honor during the fund raiser was Mrs. Anne W. Mutahi, wife of the Governor of
Nyeri County, Hon. Mutahi Kagwe.

Speaking to AMECEA Online News Sr Catherine Okari, Secretary General of ACWECA, the building
project is divided into two phases: Phase one (Block A) of which the dinner was
organized, expects to house the secretariat and administration block. The cost
of this phase is estimated to be Kshs. 46,000,000/= (about USD 541,176.-) and so far the Association has managed to
receive 31,000,000/=(about USD 364,706.-)
from international and local donor funding.
The Phase two of
the project is to build Block B, which will house hostel, training and
conference center at an estimated cost of Kshs. 143, 364,145/=(about USD 1.5 Million).
Sr. Okari said
their secretariat is intended to be located at Kiserian-Rongai in Kajiado
County (at the outskirts of the city of
Nairobi)
where they have acquired a
2.9 Acre piece of land which is already approved by the county authorities.
The
beneficiaries of this project are over 20,000 Catholic nuns drawn from the nine
Countries of AMECEA region with the aim of giving them opportunities for
professional skills and building their capacities in different areas of their
apostolate in order to fully utilize their potentials in better and complete
service to the people of God.
During the same
event, the Association launched Friends of ACWECA Association, which is an
initiative to opens doors to healthy and wealthy interactions of the Catholic
Sisters and the lay in partnership to serve the Church and the World.

and headquartered in Nairobi, the Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern
and Central Africa (ACWECA) has formed a unity front for Catholic Sisters in Evangelization
across Eastern and Central African countries namely: Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya,
Malawi, Republic of Sudan, Republic of Southern Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and
Zambia.

an efficient, effective, and faithful regional administrative, facilitative and
coordinative arm of the National Sisterhood Associations in support of the
integral pastoral mission of the Catholic Church in the Region. Inspired by the
