The Divine Mercy Apostolate at the Catholic University of Malawi has donated assorted essential items to needy and deserving students through the Office of the University Chaplain in commemoration of Divine Mercy Sunday.

Receiving the donation, University Chaplain Rev. Fr. Kondwani Mwenegamba praised the Apostolate for demonstrating compassion and solidarity with fellow students facing financial hardships.

He said the initiative reflects both the values of the Apostolate and the University’s commitment to instilling in students the principles of Catholic Social Teaching.

“As a university, we teach our students to be moved into action whenever they encounter situations that require their response. This initiative is a practical demonstration of the Church’s teaching on social responsibility and compassion for others,” said Fr. Mwenegamba.

Fr. Mwenegamba noted that many students at the institution struggle to meet basic needs during their studies, with some lacking adequate food and other necessities.

“This donation will go a long way in easing the burden for students facing various challenges while on campus. Some students barely have enough to eat and lack necessities for daily living,” he said.

Chairperson of the Divine Mercy Apostolate, Hanleck Zuze, said the donation forms part of the Apostolate’s charitable mission.

“Charitable giving is one of the key pillars of our Apostolate. Each semester, we strive to implement one of our pillars, and this time we chose to support fellow students in need because charity begins at home,” said Zuze.

Items donated included soya pieces, clothes, soap, sugar, and other essential supplies.
