SOUTH SUDAN: Catholic Radio Network Director Calls on Catholic Reporters to focus on Peace Reporting

The Director of Catholic Radio Network (CRN) has on November 8, 2022, called on Catholic media practitioners to prioritize peace reporting in South Sudan.
The Official said, media should work hard to create awareness on peace implementation that was signed parties in 2018.
Mary Ajith, Director of CRN says the Bishops ‘plenary assembly held in Khartoum last month resolve the Church involvement on peace building.
“This year, the Catholic Bishops conference has emphasized much need for us as the Catholic Radio to ensure that issues of peace building, issues of the implementation to peace agreement are prioritize in our news.”
Mary also emphasizes that Catholic institutions will continues with evangelization pillar which is number one.
She says evangelization will move together with peace promote in this country.
“We have been working and we do things like we are not Juba based, so we want to a collaboration more especially Bakhita Radio which is in Juba, and then to send this message to our stations at the states that knowledge doesn’t end in writing in the news-room.”
This came during peace journalism training for CRN news team supported by Norwegian People Aid.
The workshop was set to strengthen journalists on peace reporting. It also focus on revitalized peace agreement road map that extended the deal for 24 month.
Meanwhile, Moses John, one of an activists who was a facilitator on the Road map of the extended transitional period to the revitalized agreement in South Sudan urged reporters to follow was mentioned in the road map and it’s has not been fulfilled by the parties.
“Unification of the command structure was implemented in April 2022, graduation of the necessary Unified forces was plant for August 2022 according to the road map, but it wouldn’t take place has the said it happened by pass the time and those are the role of journalists to know what is happening in the peace agreement.”
He added that media practitioners should also be keen and follow chapter 5 in the peace agreement which focus on commission on truth healing and reconciliation, commission on reparation authority and hybrid court for South Sudan.
“The commission for truth healing and reconciliation will talk to those who suffer from the war or those who are victims of the war then they will compile the report together, “John stated.”
