ZAMBIA: Churches Reaffirm Commitment to Supplement Government Efforts in Fighting Covid-19

Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) and other Church mother bodies have continued to engage communities on Covid-19.

Friday,26th February, 2021 is the day that the Church mother bodies held a community sensitization in two local markets in the Capital City, Lusaka.

Speaking on behalf of Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops, Council of Churches in Zambia, Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia Board Chairperson Bishop Paul Mususu reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to supplement Governments efforts in fighting the deadly Covid19.

Bishop Mususu who is also a Covid-19 survivor said that with increased cases of the pandemic in Zambia, it is a clear indication that people should not drop the guard in preventing Covid19.

He added that the churches’ mother bodies are reaching out to the community to sensitise people and assist those in need.

“The pandemic has changed how we conduct our daily lives and has generated fear and uncertainties in our communities. To overcome a pandemic of such magnitude, it will require full participation from the government and various stakeholders. As mother bodies, Council of churches in Zambia (CCZ), Evangelical Fellowship in Zambia (EFZ) and Zambia Conferences of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB), we continue to urge members of the public to be proactive and adhere to all the health guidelines stipulated by health authorities. Life is a precious gift, and we must treat it as such,” he said.

The church mother bodies distributed Covid-19 protective materials such as hand washing items, sanitizers and as a contribution towards the fight against Covid-19.

Bishop Mususu added that the churches feel duty bound to take an active role in creating an environment that favours good health for a healthy person is an active person and an active person is a good asset to a country. He further strongly encouraged prudent use of the donated materials to prevent further the spread of Covid-19.
