ETHIOPIA: Catholic Church to use Radio to promote Forgiveness and Works of Charity during the Year of Mercy

The Catholic
Bishops of Ethiopia have strategized on using radio as one of the means of communications to
raise awareness on works of charity and forgiveness to the society as part of
the implementation plans of the year of Mercy in the country.

According to
Fr. Seyoum Fransua, the ECS Deputy Secretary General; ECS is sponsoring some
radio programs that will instill and promote works and the idea of Mercy to the
minds of the people on the widely heard radio stations in the country.
The Deputy
Secretary General said that the ECS took the opportunity of Christmas
celebration in the country to communicate the Holy Father’s call for the Acts
of Mercy to the people of Ethiopia.
“Some of the
programs sponsored include the promotion of the Catholic Social teachings by inviting
people to join the church in the care of our common home as they were
celebrating Christmas,” he said.
The program on
promotion of the Catholic Social Teaching of the Church is sponsored by the ‘Aid
to the Church in Need’ a donor agency on which a bigger audience have
benefited through various means of communications.
Fr. Seyoum said
that the dissemination of the message of Mercy was targeting not only to
Catholics but to all people of good will as well. “The implementation of the
Jubilee Year of Mercy in all the Dioceses is among the priorities of the Church
in Ethiopia in this year,” he said.
