Bishop Henry, Apostolic Administrator@0.3x

 Sr. Jecinter Antoinette Okoth, FSSA

The Holy Father Pope Leo XIV has appointed auxiliary Bishop of Tanzania’s Dodoma Archdiocese Rt. Rev.  Wilbroad Henry Kibozi, the Apostolic Administrator of Kondoa Diocese, following the death of Bishop Bernardin Francis Mfumbusa, who has been at the helm of the Diocese for the past 14 years.

The announcement by the Apostolic Nuncio to Tanzania, Archbishop Angelo Accattino, was made on Wednesday, April 22, during the funeral Mass of the Late Bishop Mfumbusa at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Kondoa.

Translating the message that was read by the Nuncio in Latin, the Secretary General of the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), Fr. Charles Kitima, highlighted that the Diocese has been declared vacant. After careful consideration of all matters with the special authority granted by Pope Leo XIV, Bishop Kibozi will assist in the diocese during the vacancy until a new Bishop is appointed.

He clarified that the Holy See grants the appointed bishop all the powers that the law assigns to an Apostolic Administrator; hence, he will handle all matters for the diocese of Kondoa during the transitional period.

Bishop Kibozi was born on April 30, 1973 in Dodoma. He joined Philosophy at Ntungamo Major Seminary in Catholic Diocese of Bukoba and Theology at Kipalapala Major Seminary in Tabora Archdiocese.

He was ordained a priest of Dodoma on July 9, 2010 and has served in various places including formator at Miyuji Junior seminary in Dodoma, Jordan University in Morogoro Diocese, formator and Vice Rector of Seminary of Mwendakulima, and helping mission in the Parish of Saints Kosma and Damiano in Kahama as an assistant to the Parish Administrator, before being appointed the Auxiliary Bishop of Dodoma Archdiocese on 14th May, 2024.
