To align with the global Synodal call for a more participatory Church, the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) has organized a workshop for National priests’ leadership from across the region, focused on the transformative power of servant leadership.

The workshop, themed “Promoting Servant Leadership among the Clergy,” is scheduled to take place in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, from 14 -16 April at the Clergy home.

This initiative comes as the region prepares for the upcoming AMECEA Plenary Assembly in July 2026. The assembly will focus on “Synodal journey with the young people: Building Bridges of Communion, Hope, Justice, and Good Governance.”

According to the Secretary General of AMECEA, Fr. Anthony Makunde, servant leadership, a “concept rooted in the principles of selflessness and empowerment, offers a transformative approach that effectively addresses the complex challenges faced not only by secular institutions but also by Church communities.

The Tanzanian cleric noted further that, “The Synod on Synodality has underscored the importance of servant leadership at all levels of the Church, calling for a renewed mindset that embraces participatory approaches to governance.”

By focusing on humility and empathy, the workshop aims to ensure that priests who remain “central and indispensable” to the implementation of Synodal directives are equipped to lead their flocks with a renewed, service-oriented mindset.
