SOUTH SUDAN: Young People Call for Prayers at Annual Diocesan Youth Festival
Sr. Jecinter Antoinette Okoth, FSSA
Young people from the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio (CDTY), South Sudan, have called on all the faithful to remember them in prayers as they mark their annual diocesan youth festival from 28th to 31st January.
In a message shared through the youth ministry, over 3,500 young people from across Western Equatoria State, drawn from its 10 counties, 43 Catholic Parishes, and five Deaneries, are participating in the festival.
Amid the ongoing violence in the country, which is making the nation “fragile,” the gathering, as the message reads, “is a strong sign of hope, unity, and renewal.”
Themed ‘CDTY Youth Together for Peace and Development,’ the young people call on priests, religious, families, prayer groups, and people of goodwill to pray for: “a safe and successful Youth Festival, Spiritual renewal and responsible leadership among the youth, Peace, reconciliation, and development in the Diocese and nation and for the protection and guidance for all participants and organizers.”
The CDTY administration calls for God’s intervention to bless the young people, strengthen their faith, and make them instruments of peace and transformation.
