Mortal Remains of St. Francis of Assisi to be Displayed for Public View
Jubilee of St. Francis of Assisi
Sr. Jecinter Antoinette Okoth, FSSA
To mark the 800 years since the death of St. Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Ecology, his remains will be on public display from February 22 to March 22.
The February-March timing places the exposition of the Saint’s remains during Lent, a period of reflection and renewal in the Christian calendar.
The body of the Saint will be moved from its tomb in the crypt and placed at the foot of the papal altar in the lower church of the Basilica of Saint Francis. This will be the first time in eight centuries that pilgrims will be able to view the saint’s remains directly.
Pilgrims visiting Assisi during this period are expected to book online at no cost on the centennial website (www.sanfrancescovive.org), available in both Italian and English.
