The Prelate of the Diocese of Zomba, Rt. Rev. Alfred Mateyu Chaima, has appealed to Catholics and well-wishers to support the formation of future priests by contributing towards the education of seminarians.

Bishop Chaima made the appeal at the conclusion of a Eucharistic celebration organized to mobilize resources for seminarians in the diocese. He emphasized that priestly formation is a shared responsibility that requires collective effort from the faithful and people of goodwill.

The Bishop disclosed that the Diocese of Zomba alone requires USD 24,203.60 for this year’s academic calendar to support its 33 seminarians pursuing philosophy and theology studies at various seminaries across the country.

He commended individuals and institutions that have already responded positively to the call by adopting seminarians and covering their tuition and related costs, describing their support as a vital contribution to the Church’s future.

Bishop Chaima noted that the growing Catholic population in Malawi has intensified the need to take vocation promotion and support seriously.

He added that the Diocese of Zomba, in particular, has seen an increase in the number of parishes in recent years, a clear indication of the rising demand for priests to meet pastoral needs.
