The Bishop of the Diocese of Zomba, Rt. Rev. Alfred Mateyu Chaima has called on young people to preserve the grace they receive from God and fully embrace their rightful role in the Church and society.

Speaking during the Jubilee Year Youth Mass held last week at St. Theresa Parish in Liwonde, Bishop Chaima challenged the youth to be agents of positive change both within the Church and in the broader community.

“Every youth is called to preserve the graces received from the Lord and to play their rightful role in the Church and society. A Catholic youth should lead by example and bear positive fruits in the community,” he said.

The Bishop also urged young people to refrain from behaviors that undermine their well-being and spiritual growth, citing violence in schools, substance and drug abuse, unhealthy relationships, betting and gambling, and incidents of suicide as concerning trends.

He further encouraged youth to embrace dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution, expressing concern about recent student demonstrations that caused damage to school property.

The Jubilee Mass brought together youth representatives from 20 parishes across the Diocese of Zomba, marking a significant moment of reflection, renewal, and collective commitment to living out their Christian values.
