The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) Secretary General, Very Rev. Fr. Francis Mukosa, has called on Diocesan Pastoral Coordinators to embrace the spirituality of good stewardship in their ministry and service to the Church.
He appealed at the opening Mass of the National Meeting for Diocesan Pastoral Coordinators, held at the ZCCB Secretariat in Kapingila House, Lusaka.
In his homily, Fr. Mukosa emphasized that pastoral coordinators are servants entrusted with responsibilities, not owners of the work or resources they manage.
He reminded them that their mission is a trust given by their bishops and ultimately by God, and must therefore be carried out with humility, diligence, and accountability.
“We are stewards, not owners. The mission we have received is from God through our bishops, and we must carry it out faithfully and responsibly,” Fr. Mukosa said.
He cautioned against the temptation to view ministry positions as personal possessions, noting that true ownership belongs to God alone. Instead, he encouraged the pastoral coordinators to be enterprising, creative, and resourceful in carrying out their pastoral responsibilities, using their God-given talents to promote the growth of the Church and the welfare of the faithful.
Reflecting on the Parable of the Steward, Fr. Mukosa reminded the participants that good stewardship involves recognizing that all people are created in God’s image and are called to manage resources wisely and justly.
The National Pastoral Coordinators and Directors Meeting brought together pastoral leaders from various dioceses across the country to share experiences, review pastoral plans, and strengthen collaboration in implementing the Church’s mission.
