During the Zambian Traditional Seed and Food Festival, held recently in Chilanga, Caritas Zambia Executive Director Fr.  Gabriel Mapulanga called on the government to incorporate Agroecology in policy formulation.

Speaking at the event themed “Seeds of Strength and Sovereignty: Recovering, Rebuilding, Thriving,” Fr. Mapulanga emphasized that Agroecology is not only an environmentally sustainable approach but also a pathway to achieving food sovereignty and resilience in the face of climate change.

He added that the government must support and recognize Agroecology as a key pillar in shaping the nation’s agricultural policies and future.

Fr. Mapulanga called on policymakers to integrate Agroecological principles into national agricultural frameworks to safeguard Zambia’s biodiversity and promote sustainable food systems.

Now in its eighth year, the Traditional Seed and Food Festival coincided with World Food Day, reflecting a shared global commitment to building resilient and sustainable food systems. The annual event celebrates Zambia’s rich agricultural heritage while promoting traditional knowledge and practices that have sustained communities for generations.
