ZAMBIA: Bishop Lungu Cautions Against Politicizing Church Events

BISHOP LUNGU

Sandra Kunda

Bishop George Lungu of Chipata Diocese, Zambia, has warned against turning Church gatherings into political platforms.

In a statement issued on October 22, 2025, he directed that no politician should campaign or make political remarks during Church events, except the President when officially invited to national religious occasions.

Bishop Lungu urged Catholics to be wary of donations from politicians with hidden motives, stressing that the Church must remain independent, transparent, and focused on serving the poor.

The Bishop warned that accepting politically motivated gifts risks compromising the Church’s moral voice.

Bishop Lungu has since reminded the faithful that the Church must remain a beacon of truth, justice, and hope.
