The Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops (MCCB) has called on the graduating class of 2025 at the Catholic University of Malawi to embrace humility as they prepare to serve the nation using the various disciplines they have studied.
During the graduation Mass for the 24th Congregation of the University held on Thursday, September 25, the eve of the graduation day, Rt. Rev. Montfort Stima of the Diocese of Mangochi emphasized the importance of humility in service. He urged the students to utilize their acquired knowledge and skills to help others.
“Think of the poor, connect with people, and be available in a simple way,” Bishop Stima advised.
“Don’t let your degrees define you; the community you serve cares less about your qualifications and more about your character. They want to see how you conduct yourselves and live simply among them,” the Bishop advised further.
He also encouraged the graduates to become agents of change, highlighting that Malawi faces numerous challenges across various sectors. He called on them to apply the expertise gained from the Catholic University of Malawi to address these issues.
Over 1,500 students received certificates, diplomas, and degrees during the 24th Congregation on Friday this week, which was celebrated under the theme: “Not to be Served but to Serve (Mt 20:28): Higher Education as a Driver of Good Governance.”
