The Symposium of Episcopal Conferences for Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) has announced plans to enhance its efforts in pastoral, social, and theological activities through a new strategic vision.

During the presentation of a three-year report at SECAM’s 20th Plenary Assembly in Kigali, Rwanda, the leadership revealed its intention to launch the “Church in Africa 2025-2050” strategic plan, which aims to strengthen these key areas.

The report states, “Looking ahead, SECAM plans to finalize and implement this strategy, aligning its pastoral, theological, and social efforts. It intends to improve regional representation and develop training programs for bishops, catechists, youth, and women leaders.”

Additionally, the report highlights that there will be an increased focus on campaigns addressing governance, climate change, land rights, and human dignity. SECAM also aims to enhance its digital presence, media coverage, and partnerships for greater visibility.

Despite facing challenges, SECAM’s leadership noted that the organization has made significant strides in fundraising through levies on Episcopal Conferences and donations. They have also conducted meetings and launched a multilingual website. Furthermore, a monthly newsletter titled “SECAM News” has been published in English, French, and Portuguese.

Over the past three years, SECAM has promoted the biblical formation of priests, catechists, youth, and seminarians through study programs, online platforms, and grassroots activities. The 20th Plenary Assembly in Rwanda has gathered delegates from various parts of the world to support the Church in Africa, which is called to be prophetic, inclusive, and transformative.
