The Catholic Diocese of Ndola’s bishop in Zambia, Rt. Rev. Benjamin Phiri, has encouraged the congregation to reflect on their own roles as followers of Christ and to strive to emulate the example of the Good Shepherd’s humble service and leadership.

In his homily during Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Good Shepherd, Rt. Rev. Dr. Benjamin Phiri emphasized the importance of Christ as the Good Shepherd, drawing attention to His sacrificial love and selfless devotion to His sheep.

Bishop Phiri spoke about the call to various vocations within the Church, urging those discerning their paths to answer with courage and faith.

He emphasized the responsibility of all leaders to emulate the Good Shepherd by guiding and protecting those entrusted to their care. However, he was quick to caution against complacency, urging leaders to remain rooted in prayer and connected to Christ to avoid leading others astray.

“If one of our members is no longer coming to Church, the Good Shepherd will go and look for the one who is not appearing. When one is lost, Jesus says you leave the 99 and go to look for the one which is lost,” Bishop Phiri said.

The Feast of the Good Shepherd holds profound significance, highlighting Christ as the ultimate shepherd who guides and cares for His flock with unwavering love and compassion.
