The Metropolitan Archbishop of Lusaka, Most Rev. Dr. Alick Banda, has urged all Catholics to take time to listen to God’s call to Vocations and understand what He desires for them.

Speaking during the Vocations Sunday Mass at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus, Pope Square in Lusaka, Archbishop Banda said God calls every person by their identity to different vocations such as marriage, priesthood, and religious life. Therefore, we have to listen to His call and pray for God’s guidance in discernment.

The Most Rev. Banda highlighted that Christians should not be self-centered as it makes one deaf to the Lord’s call and distracts us from the path that has been designed for us.

He added that while listening to the Lord’s call of vocation, one should not be motivated but have a sincere heart to serve God.

Archbishop Banda has further encouraged the faithful to pray for the continuity of vocations and the formation of new ones.

And celebrating the Feast of the Good Shepherd, the Archbishop recounted the parable of the Good Shepherd, emphasizing the need for Christians to imitate Jesus by guiding and looking out for one another.

“Just as Jesus helps and comforts us, we all need to help and comfort one another, especially during these hard-economic times, regardless of color, tribe, and religious affiliations,” he said.

Archbishop Banda has since called on Christians to take part in the work of evangelization to make an impact in the world.

Vocations Sunday is an annual day of prayer for vocations that encourages Catholic Christians to contemplate the valuable blessing of the call to each individual which was this year celebrated under the theme “Called to sow seeds of hope and to build peace.”
