The Chairman of the Association Member Episcopal Conference in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) and Bishop of Solwezi Diocese, Rt Rev. Charles Kasonde has called on civic and religious leaders to utilize national resources for the development of the country.

Expressing dismay at the misuse of resources for selfish and personal gain by some of those who held power previously, Bishop Kasonde emphasized the urgent need for a shift towards policies that prioritize national development.

Highlighting the detrimental impact of poor leadership and policies on the country’s state, he emphasized the necessity for leaders to demonstrate a high level of commitment to advancing the nation’s interests.

“In the face of challenges such as debts and droughts in various regions, there should be unity of purpose between Government and the populace that should be based on supporting one another rather than undue criticism to ensure progress,”

Bishops Kasonde has said this in response to the environmental challenges like droughts, and stressed the importance of water harvesting and irrigation calling upon every responsible Zambian to take proactive measures, emphasizing the significance of irrigation over reliance solely on rainwater.

These remarks were made during the Youth Day Mass at Solwezi’s St Kizito Parish, serving as a call to action for sustainable development and resource management.
