The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wau is calling on the government of South Sudan to improve health sectors across the Country.

The call came during the Inauguration of the maternity ward at Wau Teaching Hospital

Bishop Mathew Remijio Adam stated that evangelization will not go without good health because health goes together with the duties of the church.

“The social wing is very important we consider it because it is part of the development and we cannot evangelize without good health because an unhealthy person cannot listen to the good news of Jesus Christ.”

Bishop Remijio added that the Catholic Church considers heath as a social wing and it is one of their four priorities for the coming five years.

According to the Church, health is part of development, “Bishop Remijio disclosed and appreciated the implementing partners for the great work they have done for the people of Wau.

“It is a sign of appreciation and also collaboration. I thank the partners at the back of the event to renovate the maternity ward.”

The Catholic leader appealed to well-wishers and partners to support the hospital with contemporary equipment for treatment.

“In the health facilities, it is good to set up a nice place, and also equipment for us because we have many qualified doctors. I believe in Wau,.”

The governor of western Bhar el Ghazel state Sarah Cleto Riel appreciated the Organization of Italian Association for Solidarity Among People (AISPO) for their cooperation in rehabilitating maternity wards.

“I’m here to appreciate all those who put their hands together to renovate these maternity wards. This is where the life in the world begins, and it is our responsibility to ensure that this life goes till the end of the world.”

She narrated that it is the responsibility of the government and non-governmental organizations to ensure that babies are vaccinated and they are taken good care of.

“We should always encourage our people to visit the maternity wards because it is very dangerous for women to be delivering home. Men should encourage and bring their women when they are pregnant,” Governor Cleto said giving encouragement to expectant mothers.

While the minister of health in Western Bhar El Ghazal State Doctor Vincent Taban called for well-equipped personnel with qualified health experiences for good service delivery he also appreciated the organization of AISPO and midwives for the enormous work they are rendering to the people of Wau.

“I would like to thank each and every person working at Wau Hospital till now because it’s very difficult to continue working in such a situation which is not conducive like this.”

Quality health services are delivered only by health workforce that are well trained and then they have adequate and mixed knowledge and skills to meet the needs of the people they serve, “Minister of Health.”

He added that most of the challenges sectors are facing in South Sudan is a lack of motivation to maintain the qualified health workers who are committed to helping in hospitals.

“Quality health services are delivered only by a health workforce that is well trained, but when they are not motivated it is a problem because those people also have families, when they are not motivated to help their families, it affects the service delivery they do.”

The representative of AISPO Mr. Kiyodi Federico said that their responsibility is to continue supporting the people of South Sudan

Federico regrets how mothers were suffering due to lack of maternity wards in the health department of Wau.

He appealed to the administration of Wau hospital to take care of the newly rehabilitated wards.

“My responsibility is to continue to spend the money in the best way, in a transparent way, and to do the best with these funds of Italian cooperation.”
