AMECEA: Change of Date for Bakanja Seminary’s Silver Jubilee Celebration to October

Sr. Jecinter Antoinette Okoth, FSSA

Silver jubilee celebration for Blessed Bakanja AMECEA College (BBAC) that was originally planned for December this year, has now been brought forward to Saturday, October 21, 2023 after other considerations.

Sharing with AMECEA Online about the change of date, the Chairman of the organizing committee for the upcoming silver jubilee Fr. John Njue who is the Vice- Rector of the seminary, highlighted that the earlier proposed date of December may not be favorable considering the many activities for that month.

The BBAC is a regional seminary owned by the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) and has students drawn from the eight member conferences: Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan and Sudan, and from other regions within Africa.

Last year on Saturday, December 17, the seminary launched Silver Jubilee year under the theme: “Looking at the past 25 years with gratitude, living the present with passion, moving to the future with hope.”

As the preparations are underway, an organizing committee comprising of members from various institutions who are partners of the seminary, has been created to spearhead the activities for the upcoming Jubilee.

Currently, the committee is coming up with modalities on how best the silver jubilee can be celebrated hence several ideas have been floated including renovation of the seminary and better ways to raise funds for the forthcoming activities.

Currently, BBAC offers a three-year program that seeks to provide men discerning priestly vocation with the foundation needed to enter priesthood by fostering integrative growth in the areas of human and spiritual formation.

The seminary applies the four pillars of formation that is Human, spiritual, intellectual and pastoral components in the development of the young men journeying to priesthood.

Even though the college is a regional seminary owned by AMECEA, the fact that it is Kenya- based, the programs it has satisfies the criteria set forth in the program of priestly formation of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB).
