The Catholic Diocese of Musoma has organized a fundraising campaign to help the people of Malawi who were hit by Cyclone ‘Freddy’ recently, causing loss of lives and properties. The initiative comes following the request of the Bishop of the Musoma Diocese Rt. Rev. Michael Msonganzila to all the priests in the Diocese to coordinate a collection for the purpose.

Giving their donations during the Holy Mass of Easter Sunday, the faithful in the Diocese have said that this is a noble thing to do for fellow human beings to contribute to their needs, especially now when they are facing great humanitarian needs.

Veronica Kazungu, one of the lay person of the Mwisenge Parish who managed to reach Malawi and witnessed the damage caused by the cyclone, said that the situation is bad in the country where people have no shelter or food, so through various donations given by people of good will, can help them in assisting their essential needs.

“I was in Malawi, the situation is very bad. Houses, food were destroyed by the cyclone. The initiative taken by the Diocese of Musoma through our Bishop must be supported to help our colleagues, because this is an act of faith,” he said Kazungu.

A statement issued by Bishop Msonganzila says that all the donations collected on Easter Sunday in the Diocese will be sent to the Secretariat of Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) for them to send to Malawi.
