KENYA: Archbishop Anyolo Appeals to Catholic Women

Catholic women have been urged to take a lead on assisting the Church in her noble pastoral mission.

Addressing hundreds of Catholic women at All Saints Komothai Church in Kiambu County on July 28 as the congregation marked this year’s Saint Monica Feast Day, the Archbishop of Nairobi Most Rev. Philip Anyolo reminded the Catholic women that it was their pastoral duty to love, assist their priests and the Church in general.

“As part of the wider church congregation, you must not sit on the wall. On the contrary, you must participate in the Church’s ministry,” he advised.

Archbishop Anyolo reminded various roles women played in the Bible.

“Do not at any time take yourselves as ‘small’ people in the vineyard; on the contrary, consider yourselves as true co-workers in the vineyard,” emphasized Archbishop Anyolo.

The Archbishop urged parents and in particular women to ensure that they brought up their children in the Christian life.

“In many cases, some young people have made up their mind to join priesthood and Consecrated life out of the good, Christian climate availed by their parents,” he underscored.

He added, “Your patroness, Saint Monicah is such a good example of this.”

The Archbishop reminded the centrality of families in a strong, united Dependable Church.

“As church women, we must always strive to score well towards this direction,” he urged.

On the forthcoming country’s general elections, scheduled for August 9, 2022, Archbishop Anyolo urged the congregation and Kenyans in general, to ensure that they elected worthy and credible leaders.

“As your pastoral leaders, we are and continue to pray for the elections ahead and that you vote wisely. I urge you to undertake the exercise seriously as we equally commit ourselves to praying for this exercise,” promised the Archbishop.

The Archbishop, at the same time, officially opened and blessed St Monica Memorial Adoration Chapel which the local Catholic Women Association (CWA), assisted by the general local faithful and directed the parish priest of All Saints Komothai Parish.

Archbishop Anyolo thanked the women and the local faithful in general for managing to build the chapel.

“This is a good pastoral commitment of God’s people to His vineyard,” he reminded.
