UGANDA: Have a Meaningful Walk to Namugongo, Bishop-emeritus of Kasese advises Foot Pilgrims

The Bishop Emeritus Diocese of Kasese Rt. Rev. Egidio Nkaijanabwo has urged believers in Christ especially the Namugongo foot pilgrims to carry with no hesitation the mission of Christ despite the deadly challenges they may encounter.

This year, the Diocese of Fort Portal is the host and the foot pilgrim’s coordinator Fr. Titus Winyi said foot pilgrims from the Fort Portal and other neighbouring dioceses including Diocese of Kasese shall be flagged off for their nine days journey to Namugongo on 23rd May, by Bishop Robert Muhirwa at 3 pm at Virika Cathedral.

For the Diocese of Kasese, the foot pilgrims shall be flagged off on Friday 20th May 2022 to join the team at Fort Portal Diocese.

In his homily while presiding over Holy Mass for closing five days conference and blessing both those who shall travel by vehicles and foot pilgrims to Uganda Martyrs Shrine, at Nyakasanga Catholic Church in Kasese town this morning, Bishop Egidio asked Christians to be ready to die for the truth and emulate the life of the Uganda Martyrs whom he said fulfilled their obligation of spreading Christianity in Uganda.

Bishop Egidio advised the pilgrims to have a meaningful walk and offer their lives to the risen Christ. He also encouraged them to seek the guidance and protection of the Holy Spirit to guide them throughout the pilgrimage to Namugongo.

The representative of Kasese Cathedral Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Godwin Bwambale said over sixty foot pilgrim in the Diocese of Kasese have been registered and shall be led  by Sr. Evelyn Tumusiime of the Congregation of Sisters of Good council.

Sr. Evelyn Tumusiime, one of the foot pilgrims said her walk to Namugongo is to thanks God for the gift of religious life, following her first Religious profession. She calls on the Christians who shall remain at home to keep them in their prayers.

The Kasese diocesan “Bakaiso” Gild President, Ms Bellah Kabugho warned those walking on foot to walk with a purpose and equipped with all the necessity for the journey.

Uganda Martyrs day at Namugongo shall be celebrated on 3rd June, in Holy Mass animated by Fort Portal Diocese under the theme: “Baptized and sent to witness Christ with love and hope”.
