Sudan and South Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference has on Monday 14th March 2022, welcomed new Deputy Secretary-General Fr. Romano Louis Mangu, who replaces Fr. Santo Gaba.

The occasion was also to bid farewell to Fr Charles Abbud Edward, former Secretary-General of South Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Secretariat.

Speaking during the farewell ceremony, His Grace Archbishop of Juba Stephen Ameyu Martin stressed that the two conference had been a contradiction because the Bishops’ in Juba have their Secretary while Sudan and South Sudan have its Secretary, which was wrong.

Archbishop Ameyu reveals that the Conference will now have one Secretary General and the Deputy Secretary for Sudan and South Sudan Bishops’ conference.

He appreciated the outgoing Deputy Secretary for the great work he has done for over 10 years, describing him as a hardworking priest and a person of development.

He calls on the staff members of the Conference to work together with the new Deputy Secretary for the interest of the Conference, not for the interest of the individuals.

The Secretary-General of the Conference, Fr Peter Suleiman, also thanked Fr Abbud for the good work done since 2012, describing him as an active and committed leader to his work.

“Although he is going to a new place, his good work can still explain his commitment and hard work”, Fr Suleiman testified.

“Fr. Charles Abbud was active and he served for good years and his work can talk. He is a man of silence but active and he loved his work. This is what I can say about him because I can testify that even during holidays, you would get him here, ready to assist in any cases of emergency.”

Most Rev. Ameyu encourages Fr. Romano Louis Mangu to follow the footsteps of the former leader, promising that the staff members will help him in everything.

On his part, the new Deputy Secretary-General Fr Romano Louis Mangu said it has been God’s plan that he is here to work. He appreciates the staff members for sacrificing their time and thanks Fr Abbud for all the good changes that he has brought to the Secretariat.

He encourages the staff members to be strong and to continue working hand in hand with him to realize new developments.

“My dear brothers and sisters, I’m here to convey my gratitude to all of you for leaving your duties to come and whiteness this event, and also for the staff of the Secretariat to organize this beautiful event. And, thanks to my predecessor Fr. Charles Abbud for the sign of love for me. I’m here as a new person, and as you all know, being a new person sometime is not easy, so I need your support.”
