MALAWI: Discover and Feed Your Vocation: Archbishop Tambala to Catholic Secretariat staff

Archbishop George Desmond Tambala who is also the President of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), has advised workers at the Catholic Secretariat of the ECM to add value to their work by discovering their vocations and talents and incorporate them into their day to day work in order for them to live purposeful lives.

He gave the advice during a three days team-building session for the Catholic Secretariat staff members at Chipoka, Salima in the Diocese of Dedza, which was organised to enhance collaboration and integration in the work of various commissions of the Church.

‘’In whatever work we do, there is a plan of God. Our satisfaction shouldn’t be in the salary but in fulfilling the plan of God through the work: this should be our joy.  Let’s always ask ourselves: ‘what does God wants me to fulfil as I am working at the Catholic Secretariat apart from the work I do? Find your talents in the work you do and be humble and faithful and God will take you far,’’ said Archbishop Tambala.

He further insisted on the spirit of ownership of Church institutions and urged the staff be alert and vigilant in their work, not wasting time, having a positive attitude towards work, being faithful and avoiding corruption as they work to fulfil the mission and vision of the Secretariat.

‘The Catholic Church does not discriminate in its employment on religious grounds, this is because everyone is welcome in the Kingdom of God hence the presence of people belonging to other religions at the Catholic Secretariat. Therefore, do not see yourselves as just employees, but owners of the institution and be dedicated to its work.  Added the Archbishop

On working together, the Archbishop said in addition to personalities, personal demons hinder unity among workers which slows progress and achievement of goals. With guidance from (Mark 5:1-20) the workers were advised to never suppress their problems but to face them with the Lord and name them, so that they never live or work in isolation from fellow workers.

Among other things, the session included Spiritual recollection, Orientation on ECM safeguarding policy, team building and social activities.
