MALAWI: CUNIMA Donates to Nguludi Mission Hospital
Donation of medical items to St Joseph-Nguludi Mission Hospital in Chiradzulu district

The Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) on Tuesday, this week donated medical items to St Joseph-Nguludi Mission Hospital in Chiradzulu District as one way of ensuring quality health care in the country.
Speaking during the donation ceremony, CUNIMA Registrar Francis Vincent Nkhoma said the donation will help the hospital in serving people from the communities around, students and staff members from the University with quality health care.
“As Catholic University of Malawi, we have been in good partnership with St Joseph-Nguludi Mission Hospital since the inception of the Catholic University of Malawi in 2006. This is a health facility where our students and staff members are referred to when they have major illnesses,” said Nkhoma.
“As a corporate social responsibility, we felt and got compelled that to assist St Joseph- Nguludi Hospital much as we have assisted others in some districts when they were affected with floods” added Nkhoma.
Receiving the donation on behalf of Management and Staff, the Hospital Manageress Sr. Mercy Kanyumbu applauded the gesture saying the donation has boosted quality health care at the facility.
“This is a timely donation: St Joseph-Nguludi Hospital serves a lot of people and sometimes we lack these items that have been donated today by the Catholic University of Malawi. When I look at the donation, it will serve both our patients and health care providers which means we are all covered,” said Sr. Kanyumbu.
Sr. Kanyumbu has urged the health care providers at the hospital to use the donated items prudently for the common good of many in the district.
The donated items include Oxygen Medical Cylinders, surgical gloves, latex examination gloves, and overall gowns worthy K2.5 million, i.e. over $4,000 United States Dollar.
As one way of giving back to the community, the Catholic University of Malawi has been reaching out to people who are affected by challenges that include natural disasters.
Responding to a Presidential call to assist people affected by floods in 2019, the University donated assorted items to people in Phalombe, Mulanje, and Chikwawa districts.
