SOUTH SUDAN: Christians Across Rumbek Diocese Benefit with Food Stocks to Sustain Their Livelihood During the Insecurity Crisis.

Secret Heart parish of Rumbek Catholic Diocese distributed food stocks to the people who are unable to work due to insecurity in the State which has hindered them from cultivating.

Speaking during the distribution on August 3, 2021, Vicar General for Rumbek Diocese stressed that the food distribution exercise is an emergency for the vulnerable people across the Diocese, adding that it is thanks to the Diocese’s donor partners.

“The food assistance is coming from a program supported by donor partners. It is an emergency relief for the vulnerable families in all our sixteen (16) parishes of the Diocese of Rumbek whereby each parish receives seventy-two (72) bags of beans, seventy-two (72) bags of maize, Dura, oil and many more”

The Vicar says, the committee should identify the vulnerable people in all the parishes and the food should reach them according to the quantity which they are suppose receive

“Let us identify the people who are vulnerable and let the food reach them. Also, let us not base all our support on the food coming from far. Let us also feed ourselves by cultivating the little that we can to support ourselves, our brothers and sisters”.

Meanwhile, head of Catechists at Sacred Heart Parish Abraham Long Ater appreciated the Diocesan administration and donors for the great support that they are offering to the people of Rumbek.

“We are very happy for their support and we are very happy for what they did to the Diocese all these years, and we do appreciate the Vicar General Fr. Andrew for his kindness to stand with us every year,” he added.

Also, the deputy chairperson for women Ms Sarah Akur appreciated the church for the relief and encouraged the vulnerable people to commit themselves to the church.

Sarah said Christians should take prayers seriously because it is by God’s grace that through him they are getting food items.

Ajak Akoi, one of the beneficiaries stated that the support they are getting from Rumbek Diocese is important both spiritually and in terms of helping the vulnerable people during this critical moment to save their lives.

The food stocks including sorghum, Maize, sugar, slot, cooking Oil, Beans among others.
