KENYA: Mombasa Archdiocese has a New Vicar General

On Wednesday, February 17, Most Rev. Martin Kivuva Musonde, Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa, oversaw the handing over of the Vicar General at his office Holy Ghost Cathedral. The ceremony, saw Rev. Fr. Armogast Mdawida take over the mantle from Monsignor Willybard Lagho, who is set to be installed as the third Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Malindi, in a function scheduled for Friday, March 19.

The Archbishop welcomed the incoming Vicar General and wished the duo the best in their new appointments.

Speaking to Radio Tumaini, a Catholic radio station for the Archdiocese of Mombasa after the ceremony, the Bishop elect congratulated his successor, describing him as a composed and prayerful priest who is equal to the task. Of his twelve year-stint at the Mombasa Diocese, Bishop-elect said he had a fruitful service; first as Education Secretary before taking up the post of Vicar General.

On his part, Fr. Mdawida acknowledged the challenges that awaits him in his new office, but said he was determined to help the Archbishop achieve the mission of the Church.

The new Vicar General also called on Catholic faithful to remain focused in Christ, especially during this time when Coronavirus is threatening and ravaging the world, and also to support the Church in its mission to spread the word of God.
