ZAMBIA: Catholic Care for Children Partners with Civil Society Organizations to Help Reintegrate Children

The Catholic Care for Children in Zambia has partnered with other organisations to help government of Zambia reintegrate children from foster homes.

In confirming the development, Catholic Care for Children (CCC) in Zambia Coordinator Sr. Cecilia Nakambo said her organisation is contributing the counselling expertise of children in the reintegration process.

Sr. Nakambo who said the reintegration process which is being piloted by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Welfare involves working with different foster -homes, including those that belong to different faiths.

She named the organisations that Catholic Care for Children (CCC) is in consortium with as Catholic Mission Medical Board, Catholic Relief Services, UNICEF and Christian Alliance for Children in Zambia.

Meanwhile in preparing children to be reintegrated in their families from foster homes, Sr. Nakambo has revealed that 5 training sessions at different child care facilities have been held on how to handle violence.

She said the training session dubbed, “Singing to the Lion,” is designed to train children on how to overcome fear and violence in their lives.

It involves children sharing their experiences with others and training them on how to identify and handle violence and bullying either by adults or peers.

Sr. Nakambo said the latest 19 children to be trained were the children at Zambia Messianic Fellowship, which brings the total number of children trained to 140.

The expected number of children to be trained is 200.
