Young Christian Workers (YCW) in the Archdiocese of Blantyre on Sunday, 13th December 2020 conducted a charity work at St Paul’s (Mwanza) Parish where they donated clothes and sanitisers to the elderly.

Speaking after receiving the donation, one of the beneficiaries, Rose Jana commended YCW in the Archdiocese for clothing them and giving them hand sanitisers.

“I was happy when I was considered for this donation, we are to be protected from COVID-19 as we use the hand sanitisers” Said Jana.

Concurring with Jana, Archdiocese of Blantyre YCW President Augustine Mwalwanda said the donation will help in fight against the spread of the novel Coronavirus that has claimed thousands of people’s lives around the world.

‘We are happy we have donated assorted clothes and sanitisers to over 400 women in Mwanza deanery. Yes, we are still facing the COVID -19 pandemic but that cannot stop us from doing good. The work of Jesus Christ has to be done anytime, at all times,” said Mwalwanda.

Parish Priest of St Paul’s Parish Rev. Fr. John Chitsulo commended the YCW members for the donation describing it as “Christmas gift” to the elderly in the district.

“Our grannies have gone home while wearing smiles and this already marked to them the beginning of Christmas. The items our grannies have received will surely better their lives,” said Fr. Chitsulo.

The donation on Sunday has witness 415 elderly women benefiting from YCW’s helping hand through Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) that supplied clothes to Movement.

Each year, YCW in the Archdiocese of Blantyre conducts a charity work to reach to the people that need help.

The Archdiocese of Blantyre YCW has 260 enrolled members in six deaneries out of eight deaneries that the Archdiocese has. The movement of YCW strives to See, Judge and Act on issues in respective societies.
