Two months after a masked man attacked a convent in Zambia and injured two nuns from the congregation of the Little Servants of Mary Immaculate (LSMI), one of the nuns Sr. Matilda Mulengachonzi died Sunday, October 25 after sustaining deep cuts on the forehead and head, with another injury on the eye.

The Provincial Superior Sr. Sylvia Kagulura mourned the loss of her Sister who was laid to rest on Wednesday, October 28, at Kasisi Cemetery saying, “As a congregation we await the findings of the police.”

Sending their condolence messages to the congregation of the LSMI, members of Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) termed the attack as “cruel and violent.”

“We pray that the Good Lord may graciously look upon her 41 years of Religious life and her selfless services as teacher and as cashier for Chalice Program at the time of her demise,” the Bishops eulogized in their statement signed by Bishop Patrick Chisanga of Zambia’s Mansa Diocese who is also Bishop Director for the Religious.

“May our Lord bless and comfort you, the family of the late and the entire Congregation of the LSMI during this time of grief. We pray that the good Lord may receive her into his heavenly Kingdom. May God reward her for the valuable services to the Church in Zambia and may her soul rest in eternal peace,” Bishop Chisanga a member of the Order of Friars Minor Conventuals added on behalf of the Bishops in the statement dated Tuesday, October 27.

Sr. Mulengachonzi died at the age of 60.
