He was appointed Dean of Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences in June 2010, and later promoted to the position of Associate Professor on 1st August 2013.

On 1st March 2014 he was appointed as Director of Kisumu Campus and, upon closure of Kisumu Campus, he was transferred to Langata Campus as an Associate Professor on 1st January 2018 in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences.

“Prof Mvumbi was really what you call the people’s person and very outgoing. He was really ahead of us in terms of relating with people; even if he did not know you he would still approach you and talk to you. He had no reservations about anything,” Prof Mbae shared about the departed Don, adding that the late was a person who always reached out to others and trying to see how he can help.

As a Dominican, the late Prof Mvumbi is described as “a very good preacher” whose homilies were always very lively.

“He was very loud, of course, and made a lot of noise, and so we understood him and got to like him. He was a man whom really nothing was beyond and if you were not careful you might take him seriously even if he were just joking,” Prof Mbae said adding that the late Prof Mvumbi was a wonderful man, a great soul, a very brilliant and hardworking person whose demise means great loss to the university.

A requiem Mass for the late Prof Mvumbi is scheduled for Thursday, March 14 at CUEA Main Campus in Langata, Nairobi. He will be laid to rest on Friday, March 15 at the Dominican Cemetery, in Kisumu, Kenya.

May His Soul Rest in Eternal Peace.
