South Sudan to Join the Globe in Celebrating World Radio Day

South Sudan will on Wednesday February 13 join the globe in celebrating World Radio Day in Juba and other parts of the country.

The ceremony this year will be under the theme: “Dialogue, tolerance and peace”.

In a note that CRN got, UNESCO is expected to spearhead preparations for the celebrations starting on Wednesday, January 09, in Juba.

“World Radio Day celebration marks a time where people around the world celebrate radio and how it shapes lives. The radio informs, transforms and brings together people and communities from all backgrounds to foster positive dialogue for change. Radio is the perfect medium to counter the appeals for violence and the spread of conflict, especially in regions potentially more exposed to such realities,” reads the UNESCO note.

UNESCO proclaimed February 13 as a date to celebrate radio broadcast, improve international cooperation among radio broadcasters and encourage decision-makers to create and provide access to information through radio.

It’s an occasion to draw attention to the unique value of the radio, which remains the medium to reach the widest audience and is currently taking up new technological forms and devices.

UNESCO also encourages all countries to celebrate this Day by undertaking activities with diverse partners, such as national, regional and international broadcasting associations and organizations, non-governmental organizations, media organizations, outlets as well as the public at large.
