SOUTH SUDAN: WHO Confirms Vaccination of Health Teams as Ebola Outbreak Grows

World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday confirmed that South Sudan will vaccinate key health workers close to the border with Congo against Ebola as outbreak grows. The Agency says that Ministry of Health’s vaccination campaign will target healthcare and frontline workers in the high-risk states of Juba, Yei, Yambio and Nimule.

According to Congolese Health Minister Oly Ilunga Kalenga, South Sudan is one of the countries bordering the DRC, where the outbreak of the viral disease has since August claimed over two hundred and seventy lives.

WHO says over two thousand doses of vaccine have been allocated for the programme starting on December 19. According to the international Agency, South Sudan has declared a state of alert due to the risk that Ebola may be carried into its territory. At present no cases have been reported.
