Under the guiding themes of apostolic unity and spiritual strength, the Catholic Eparchy of Meki successfully hosted its annual four-day spiritual retreat for mothers from March 12 to March 15, 2026.

The gathering, centered on the scriptural reflections of “They were all together in the boat” (John 21:2-3) and “Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way” (Isaiah 35:3), brought together women from various parishes across the Eparchy for a period of intense prayer and communal reflection.

The program officially commenced on Thursday with a warm welcome from Rev. Abba Mulat Sebro, Head of the Eparchy’s Pastoral Works Coordination Office. In his opening address, Abba Mulat introduced the retreat’s theme, urging the participants to embrace the spirit of togetherness and spiritual fortitude.

Throughout the four-day event, guest priests delivered moving sermons focused on the Word of God, providing the mothers with spiritual nourishment and guidance. A highlight of the assembly included Testimonies of Grace Mothers from different parishes shared personal stories of faith, testifying to the blessings and “answered prayers” they have experienced in their lives and families. The event served as a platform to strengthen women’s role within the Church’s mission.

The retreat culminated in a solemn Eucharistic Celebration presided over by His Excellency Abune Abraham Desta, Bishop of the Vicariate of Meki.

In his homily, Abune Abraham drew inspiration from the Gospel account of the Samaritan woman. He challenged the attendees to become active witnesses of Christ in their daily lives, stating: “Like the Samaritan woman, we must share the good things that have been done for us with others.”

The Bishop encouraged the mothers to return to their homes as ambassadors of hope, carrying the light of the Gospel to their neighbors and the wider community.
