MALAWI: Catholic University Students Urged to Live Responsibly
By Luke Bisani
Students of the Catholic University of Malawi have been urged to live responsibly while pursuing their studies as they prepare for careers in various professional fields.
Speaking during the inaugural Mass marking the opening of the 2026 first semester, Rev. Fr. Dr. Benedict Zele encouraged students to cultivate good behaviour throughout their time at the University.
“Sometimes we wonder when we hear news about people in hospitals demanding bribes or individuals stealing money meant for poor taxpayers, yet these are graduates. Such behaviour often begins earlier in life. If you compromise your values now, it becomes difficult to change later,” said Fr. Zele.
He further encouraged students to work hard and embrace the holistic education offered at the University.
Concurring with Fr. Zele, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Francis Moto said responsible living gives a unique identity to students who pass through the corridors of the University.
“We receive reports about our graduates wherever they are working, how they perform in offices, how they present themselves in interviews, and how they conduct business. We are proud of the positive feedback we continue to receive,” said Professor Moto.
He also urged students to remain focused during their time at the University, noting that irresponsible living can compromise one’s direction in life.
At the beginning of every semester, the Catholic University of Malawi celebrates Holy Mass to pray for good health for both students and staff, and for wisdom and guidance throughout the academic journey.
