Bishop of Mansa Rt. Rev Patrick Chisanga has officially blessed the new church building at St. Peter’s Centre, Mpandika, of Namwandwe Parish.

The ceremony coincided with the 65th anniversary of the elevation of the Diocese of Mansa.

The Eucharistic celebration drew scores of worshippers, including civic and political leaders.

During his homily, Bishop Chisanga commended the local community and stakeholders for their unwavering commitment to the project.

He praised the collective effort of everyone who contributed resources and labor toward the construction.

The blessing of St. Peter’s Centre marks the first step in the observance of the new pastoral theme: “Go and repair my Church.” The theme is calling for parishes and prayer centres to have decent places of worship.

On January 3, 1961, the Catholic Church in Luapula was formally elevated from an Apostolic Prefecture to the status of a Diocese with Rt. Rev. René-Georges Pailloux, M. Afr. as its first Bishop.
