AMECEA: Aid to The Church in Need Introduces New Media Service for African Church
By Bezawit Assefa
At a gathering of African TV directors and communication leaders, Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) introduced the Catholic Television Service in Africa (CTSA), a visionary media initiative designed to empower the Church’s presence across the continent.
Recognizing the urgent need for stronger unity and visibility among Africa’s 20 active Catholic television stations, ACN committed to driving the establishment of a continent-wide television service that will significantly elevate Catholic communication in Africa.
CTSA aims to build powerful media bridges between Africa and other regions of the world, especially Latin America and Russia, where ACN has decades of experience collaborating with more than 150 and 20 television stations, respectively. This global network is intended to amplify Africa’s voice and strengthen deeper intercultural exchange.
During the event, the ACN team highlighted the remarkable achievements and hard-won lessons from the Latin American project BNC (Buena Nueva Comunicación), where Catholic and non-Catholic media organizations succeeded in building a robust, collaborative communication ecosystem.
Through the Africa TV project, ACN aims to equip African media professionals with advanced training in programming and high-quality international content production.
This initiative seeks not only to enhance technical expertise but also to challenge and correct the distorted narratives that continue to shape global perceptions of Africa, replacing them with authentic, dignified, and powerful stories from the continent itself.
