Members of the South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC), including His Eminence Stephen Ameyu Martin Cardinal Mulla, met Kenya’s Head of State, His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto, ahead of the 2026 General Elections, to discuss the peace process and stability in the world’s youngest nation.

In his X account after the meeting on Tuesday, November 18, at the State House in Kenya, President Ruto assured the Church leaders of Kenya’s commitment to supporting peace and democratic progress in South Sudan.

“Kenya is committed to supporting all regional efforts that promote peace, stability, and democratic governance. We stand firm in our belief that a peaceful and prosperous South Sudan is essential for the progress of our region,” The President wrote, adding that Kenya “will continue to work with partners to advance dialogue, nation-building, and long-term stability.”

The Thursday meeting emphasized the regional commitment to achieving a peaceful South Sudan, as church leaders called for intensified efforts toward national reconciliation and the successful organization of the December 2026 elections.

According to President Ruto, members of SSCC briefed him on the situation in South Sudan and urged strengthened efforts towards renewed peace, political dialogue, the constitution-making process, and preparations for the December 2026 General elections.

The Kenyan President further pledged that Kenya will continue to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure South Sudan remains on a path of reconciliation, unity, and democratic progress for the benefit of its people and the region.

The meeting coincides with Kenya hosting the Tumaini Peace Initiative, which aims to bring opposition factions into the revitalized peace agreement and guide South Sudan toward a democratic transition.
