ZAMBIA: Holy Childhood in Solwezi Diocese Encouraged to Witness Among Peers
Fr. Wilbroad Musonda
With joy and faith, the Holy Childhood from four parishes convened in the Kifubwa Deanery for the 2025 World Mission Sunday celebrations, with the call to be missionaries to their fellow children.
Addressing the gathering of 120 Holy Childhood and 10 Animators during the 2025 World Mission Sunday celebrations under the theme “Missionaries of Hope Among All Peoples” held at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Sunday 19th October 2025, the Vicar General of Solwezi Diocese, Very Rev. Fr. Ndumba Douglas Likomeno, urged the children to become missionaries to their fellow children by sharing the love of Jesus Christ through their interactions and witness in their respective churches.
He addressed the children, “All of you have friends you interact with at school, home, and church. Through your daily interactions with your friends, you are supposed to let them know Jesus Christ; therefore, you are called to be missionaries to your friends.”
Very Rev. Fr. Ndumba, who doubles as Parish Priest for the Kifubwa Zone of St. Patrick, St. Claire, and St. Albert Catholic Churches, further encouraged the Holy Childhood to listen to their parents and animators and to embrace a good way of life in their churches.
The Zambian priest emphasized the importance of this foundation for their future, potentially answering God’s call to become priests and religious sisters.
By doing so, Very Rev. Fr. Ndumba adds, the children would be well-equipped to serve faithfully.
The 2025 World Mission Sunday celebrations were marked by vibrant activities from the Holy Childhood, featuring prayers, poems, a Bible memory verse, songs, modeling, and cultural dances.
The Holy Childhood from St. Patrick, St. Cecilia, St. Albert, and St. Claire Catholic Churches gathered at St. Patrick. Their animators accompanied it to celebrate World Mission Sunday.
In a recent video message released by Vatican News, Pope Leo XIV encouraged global participation in World Mission Sunday, highlighting its significance in supporting missionaries worldwide.
Celebrated annually on the penultimate Sunday of October, World Mission Sunday unites Catholics globally in prayer, reflection, and financial support for the Church’s missionary work in over 1,124 territories.
