On 23rd August 2025, the Cathedral of Christ the King in Ndola was filled with joy and thanksgiving as the Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia and Malawi, Archbishop Gian Luca Perici, presided over a solemn Mass marking the 100th birthday of the Cathedral’s founder, the late Don Oreste Benzi.
The celebration drew clergy, religious, and lay faithful from across the Archdiocese of Ndola, joining in a profound moment of reflection on the mission and charism of the Pope John XXIII Association, which Don Oreste Benzi established to serve the marginalized and vulnerable.
Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri, concelebrated the liturgy alongside several priests, while members of the Association took active roles in the service.
In his homily, Archbishop Perici congratulated the Association for its steadfast service over the decades, praising its witness to the Gospel through tangible acts of love.
He underscored humility as the cornerstone of authentic Christian service, reminding the faithful that “service rooted in humility reflects the very heart of Christ.”
The celebration concluded with joyful hymns led by the Cathedral Choir, followed by a presentation on the life and mission of Don Oreste Benzi. A luncheon was later shared with invited guests, capping the historic milestone for the Pope John XXIII Association in Zambia.
