Illovo Sugar Malawi has donated brand-new desktop computers valued at USD 17,298.22 to the Catholic University of Malawi to enhance the quality of education provided.

During the handover ceremony on Friday this week, Professor Francis Moto, Vice Chancellor of the University, praised Illovo Sugar Malawi as a valued partner in promoting quality and comprehensive education across the country.

“We live in a world where knowledge and technology drive progress. These computers will empower our students with digital skills, open doors to research opportunities, and strengthen our capacity to produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also prepared to meet the challenges of a dynamic global economy,” said Professor Moto.

He assured Illovo that the University would make good use of the computers, noting that the donation would help fill the gap in technology to support student learning.

Maureen Kachingwe, Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Illovo Sugar Malawi, stated that the company is committed to supporting education in Malawi, which is why they made this donation.

“Supporting education is one of our core pillars, and each year we aim to contribute to the education sector when funds are available,” Kachingwe said.

She also noted that this donation was made in response to a request from the late Vice Chancellor, Associate Professor Ngeyi Ruth Kanyongolo, who sought support for the university.

“We chose to purchase computers from her wish list,” Kachingwe added.

Kachingwe encouraged other companies and individuals to support the university to ensure the production of quality graduates in the country.

“These students are the future leaders of companies, so it is vital that we come together to support institutions like the Catholic University of Malawi as they gain the necessary skills and knowledge,” she emphasized.
