UGANDA: Emulate Late Msgr. Muhindo’s Legacy, Promote Education: Bishop Kibira at Memorial Mass

The ordinary of Kasese, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale has challenged Christians to emulate the late Msgr. Augustino Muhindo, “known as Kithabutsunde” whom he described, was a pillar of priesthood, education, and social-economic transformation in Kasese district.

Late Msgr. Muhindo who was the first among the Mukonzo people to be ordained priest in the Roman Catholic Church on 14th December 1958, his Mass was attended by the then king of Tooro.

In his homily during the Mass celebrating 10 years of the demise of late Msgr. Muhindo, held at their ancestral home in Mughende village, Nsenyi ward in Kisinga town council this afternoon, the prelate asked relatives to keep the legacy of Msgr.Muhindo through championing education and building their family on a strong foundation of Christ.

Bishop Kibira, said late Msgr. Muhindo is a celebrated priest in the Catholic dioceses of Kasese and Fort Portal, where he served for having established schools, at every parish he was posted to serve the lord.

He asked priests and Religious men and women to learn from the earthly life of late Msgr. Muhindo and do their duties with commitment, announcing this year D.O.K will celebrate 50 years of priesthood of Fr. Kambale Raphael Balinandi in Nsenyi Parish.

The Mr. Pascal Bwambale Bernado, in his family report, called upon Christians and well-wishers to contribute towards revamping, late. Msgr. Augustino memorial skill center which was established in his memory.

The deputy prime Minister of Obusinga-Bwa-Rwenzururu, Rt. Hon. Edwin Kugonza Bayiringa, described late Msgr. Augustino as a psyclopedia, whose thinking was in line with OBR five pillars.

Mr. Selevest Masereka, who donated land to St Francis Nyakaina, a local church to late. Msgr. Augustino said the establishment of the Catholic Church in the area had contributed much to the spiritual growth and reduction of criminality.

Msgr. Augustino Muhindo was born around 1921, his parents were John Kambere Thalisugah and Muhambu Kanyere. He became the first Mukonzo priest in joyful and memorable day of 14th December 1958, in a Mass that attracted thousands of people who travelled long distances to witness the noble event.

He was appointed to serve in different parishes in Fort portal Diocese before curving out Hoima and Kasese Dioceses.
