UGANDA: At Chrism Mass of Kasese Diocese, Priests Reminded of Their Priestly Calling

Masereka Peter

The Ordinary of Kasese Diocese, Uganda, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale has asked priests to serve Christians with joy, commitment, and praying together as one family at parish level.

During Chrism Mass at Our Lady of Assumption Kasese Cathedral Church Tuesday, March 26, the Bishop blessed the oil for the sick, for the catechumens, and the Chrism which bishops and priests normally use for various sacraments in the Church. During the same Mass priests reaffirmed their promises of service as a manifestation of the priests’ communion with their Bishop as well as signifying the unity and union of the church of Christ.

In his homily, Bishop Kibira said every priest is chosen from the community and appointed by God to act on behalf of people in relation to God to offer gifts and sacrifices for his own as well as for the community.

Rt. Rev. Kibira said priests have an obligation to keep the church strong and united the institution that was initiated by the precious blood of Jesus Christ,

He asked priests to acknowledge their weakness and offer themselves to Christ in the Holy Sacrament of Eucharist as well as working closely with his people in leading all souls to salvation.

The Kasese Diocesan Vocational Director, Rev. Fr. Joseph Tumusiime said the diocese decided to hold Chrism Mass on Tuesday instead of Holy Thursday to give room to priests whose parishes are a distance from the cathedral to prepare for the Holy week Mass and Easter, calling on priests to practically get renewed and serve Christ’s church wholeheartedly.

The Holy Mass was attended by Bishop Emeritus Diocese of Kasese, Rt. Rev. Egidio Nkaijanabo and Msgr. Landus Bwambale the diocesan Vicar general among other priests.
