The Ordinary of the Diocese of Zomba, Rt. Rev. Alfred Chaima, has expressed excitement with excellence that the St. Mary Girls Secondary School has been demonstrating through national exams in Malawi.
Speaking after touring the school on Thursday this week, Bishop Chaima encouraged teachers at the school to continue with the hard-working spirit to maintain the legacy of excellence in the country.
“Continue the spirit of hard work so that we help these girls become reliable, future citizens that this country needs,” said Bishop Chaima.
He further urged the teachers to ensure discipline of the students as stipulated in Catholic ethos and teachings.
In the company of the school’s headmistress Sr. Annie Kapenda DW, Bishop Chaima toured the library, classrooms, science laboratories and the students’ kitchen and dining hall.
Established in 1939, St. Mary’s is an all-girls’ secondary boarding school in the Diocese of Zomba managed by the Sisters’ congregation Daughters of Wisdom, and is government-aided.
Over the years, the school has been decorated with accolades for being one of the best girls’ schools in Malawi in the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.
Currently, the school has 527 students and 37 academic staff.
