ZAMBIA: Yusufu Radio Opens in Zambia, Ushering in a New Era for Mpika Diocese

Radio Yusufu, the Catholic Radio Station has officially hit the airwaves in the Catholic Diocese of Mpika with the chief shepherd Rt, Rev. Edwin Mulandu saying it is the voice of evangelization.

The inauguration of the Yusufu Radio which simply means ‘Joseph’, commenced with the Holy Mass attended by several priests and consecrated men and women and the lay faithful.

Celebrating Mass for the Consecrated and the official opening of Yusufu Radio at St Joseph the Worker Cathedral Parish in Mpika district, the principal celebrant, Archbishop Dr Alick Banda said, “The Radio aims to serve as a medium for evangelization, bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to the people of Mpika and its surrounding areas, transcending denominational boundaries.”

Expressing gratitude for this diocesan dream realized, Archbishop Banda urged the station’s staff to operate objectively, truthfully, and fearlessly without favouring anyone.

“We can only be thankful to God for this tool that he has given us” the archbishop exclaimed.

On his part, Bishop Mulandu emphasized the station’s core objective of evangelization, tailoring programming to reflect the Church’s values. “Radio Yusufu is there to evangelise,” Bishop Mulandu says.

Bishop Mulandu highlighted its role in informing, educating, and entertaining, covering areas such as agriculture, education, environment, health, and current affairs to keep the people updated.

He envisioned Yusufu Radio as a voice of empowerment, economically and socially, amplifying the voices of the people.

And while Acknowledging the Catholic Church’s vital role in complementing government efforts in different areas, Bishop of Mpika Edwin Mulandu said information dissemination is no exception.

Bishop Mulandu thanked all those involved in bringing this project to fruition.

Bishop Mulandu further appealed to the Information Broadcasting Authority, IBA to upgrade the frequency for broader outreach.

Meanwhile Government and traditional leaders pledged their support to Yusufu Radio and expressed happiness, saying it is part of the much-needed development.

Yusufu Radio, whose broadcasting license was granted six months ago by IBA marks the 10th Catholic Radio Station in Zambia.

And to mark the celebration of the for the Consecrated, Archbishop Banda encouraged religious men and women to remain faithful to their calling, emphasizing unwavering dedication in both good and challenging times physically and spiritually.

The occasion was also attended by among the notables, Muchinga Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Matthews Chilekwa and his entourage, Chief Chikwanda and Chief Luchembe among others.
