The Catholic Diocese of Zomba has, on Saturday, February 3, 2024 launched a five-year Strategic Plan to provide pastoral direction for the Diocese.

Speaking during the launch of the plan that was concelebrated with the national celebration of consecrated life in the Church and the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMS), Bishop of Zomba Diocese Rt. Rev. Alfred Chaima, urged the Catholic Faith in the Diocese to work together towards the successful implementation of the plan.

The ordinary of Zomba then urged parishes, churches, and groups to start planning for the activities that the strategic plan demands to be achieved in the next five years.

“Everyone must be involved, from priests, Religious men and women as well as lay men, and women to the grassroots. We need to start implementing now and should not wait for anything,” said Bishop Chaima.

Bishop Chaima then applauded men and women in Consecrated life for the role they play in the Church. He also urged them to avail themselves of various pastoral initiatives in the diocese as inspired by their charisms.

The new strategic plan for the Diocese of Zomba has been launched under the theme Ownership and Responsibility in Building a Self-Reliant Church. The diocese was established in 1959, and it has 20 parishes, covering an area of 3,522 square kilometers.

The mission of the diocese is to foster evangelization for the salvation of humankind by empowering the faithful with the word of God through Catholic values, doctrines, and teachings in line with the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM).
